Question 1

How often should my dog be groomed?

Accepted Answer

This depends on your dog’s breed, coat type and lifestyle. For most Cockapoos, Labradoodles, Cocker Spaniels and other regularly groomed breeds, we recommend a Full Groom every 6 to 8 weeks. Many clients also choose a Bath and Tidy appointment every 4 weeks to keep their dog’s coat clean, healthy and comfortable between full grooms. Regular grooming helps prevent matting, supports healthy skin and coat condition, and makes the grooming experience more enjoyable for your dog.

Question 2

How long does a grooming appointment take?

Accepted Answer

The length of the appointment varies depending on your dog’s breed, coat condition, size and temperament. Most appointments take approximately 2 to 3 hours, although this can vary. We never rush dogs through the grooming process. Our priority is ensuring your dog feels comfortable and has a positive experience throughout their visit.

Question 3

My dog is nervous. Can you help?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Helping nervous dogs feel safe and comfortable is one of the things we’re most passionate about. We take a gentle, patient approach and work at your dog’s pace. For some dogs, we may recommend an introductory meet and greet session before their first groom so they can become familiar with the salon and build confidence. We use positive reinforcement, regular breaks and calming techniques to help create a stress-free experience wherever possible. Every dog is an individual, and we tailor our approach to suit their needs.

Question 4

What happens during my dog’s first appointment?

Accepted Answer

For new clients, we’ll spend some time getting to know both you and your dog. We’ll discuss your dog’s grooming history, coat condition, temperament and any specific requirements or concerns you may have. This allows us to create a grooming plan that works best for your pet. Our goal is to ensure both you and your dog feel relaxed and confident from the very beginning.

Question 5

Do you groom puppies?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we do. Our Pearly Puppy Pampers sessions are designed specifically for young dogs who are new to grooming. These appointments focus on building confidence and creating positive experiences through gentle introductions to bathing, brushing, drying and handling. Introducing puppies to grooming early helps them develop positive associations that can last a lifetime.

Question 6

Do you use crates?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but only for very short periods when necessary. We operate primarily on an appointment-based system, which means dogs are not spending long periods waiting in crates. Our focus is on providing a calm, comfortable environment where dogs can relax during their visit.

Question 7

Do you use cage dryers?

Accepted Answer

No. We do not use cage dryers. We prefer a hands-on approach where dogs are monitored throughout the drying process. This allows us to ensure your dog’s comfort and wellbeing at all times.

Question 8

What if my dog is matted?

Accepted Answer

Matting is very common, particularly in breeds such as Cockapoos, Labradoodles and other poodle mixes. Small tangles can often be brushed out safely. However, severe matting can be uncomfortable and painful for dogs. At Pearl and Paws Groom Room, we always prioritise your dog’s welfare. If matting is extensive, the kindest and safest option may be to carefully remove it and allow the coat to grow back healthy. We’ll always discuss your options with you before proceeding.

Question 9

Can you brush out severe matting?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunately, not always. Many people believe matted coats can simply be brushed out, but severe matting often pulls tightly on the skin and can cause significant discomfort. Our philosophy is simple: humanity before vanity. If removing the mats is the kindest option for your dog, we will always recommend that approach.

Question 10

Do you hand strip dogs?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We offer professional hand stripping for suitable wire-coated breeds, including many Terriers and Cocker Spaniels. Hand stripping helps maintain the correct coat texture, colour and condition while supporting healthy coat growth. If you’re unsure whether your dog’s coat is suitable for hand stripping, we’d be happy to advise.

Question 11

What products do you use?

Accepted Answer

We use high-quality professional grooming products that are carefully selected to support healthy skin and coat condition. We also use vegan grooming products that are not tested on animals and are chosen with your dog’s comfort and wellbeing in mind.

Question 12

What safety measures do you have in place?

Accepted Answer

Your dog’s safety is always our highest priority. We never leave dogs unattended on the grooming table and use appropriate grooming equipment to help keep them safe during their appointment. Lisa is trained in animal first aid and continually updates her knowledge through professional development and training. If at any point we feel continuing a groom would compromise your dog’s welfare, we will stop and discuss the best options with you.

Question 13

Should double-coated dogs be shaved in summer?

Accepted Answer

In most cases, no. Double-coated breeds such as Huskies, Golden Retrievers, Border Collies and Pomeranians have coats designed to help regulate their body temperature. The undercoat provides insulation during winter and can also help keep dogs cool during warmer months. Regular brushing and professional de-shedding treatments are usually far more beneficial than shaving these breeds.

Question 14

How much does dog grooming cost?

Accepted Answer

Pricing varies depending on your dog’s breed, size, coat condition and the service required. We believe in transparent pricing and will always discuss costs with you before your appointment. For an accurate quote, please get in touch or book a consultation.

Question 15

Do you offer teeth cleaning?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We offer ultrasound teeth cleaning, a non-invasive treatment designed to help soften plaque and tartar build-up while supporting healthier gums and fresher breath. This gentle treatment can be incorporated into your dog’s regular care routine and is suitable for many dogs.

Question 16

Can I book online?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We offer convenient online booking for both new and existing clients, making it easy to find an appointment time that suits you. If you’d prefer to speak to us first, you’re always welcome to get in touch to discuss your dog’s needs.
