How Often Should You Groom a Cockapoo?

Cockapoos are one of the most popular dog breeds in Sheffield, and it’s easy to see why. They’re friendly, intelligent and absolutely adorable.
However, they also have one of the most demanding coat types when it comes to grooming.
Without regular maintenance, a Cockapoo’s coat can quickly become tangled, matted and uncomfortable.
Why Cockapoos Need Regular Grooming
Most Cockapoos inherit a combination of Poodle and Cocker Spaniel coat characteristics.
Their coats often continue growing rather than shedding naturally, which means loose hair becomes trapped within the coat and can quickly form knots and mats.
These mats pull on the skin, causing discomfort and sometimes even bruising.
Our Recommended Grooming Schedule
At Pearl and Paws Groom Room, we typically recommend:
* Professional Full Groom every 6 to 8 weeks
* Bath and tidy every 4 weeks
* Home brushing several times each week
This routine helps keep the coat healthy, manageable and comfortable.
The Problem with Matted Coats
One of the biggest misconceptions we encounter is that matted coats can simply be brushed out.
Unfortunately, severe matting can be painful for dogs. Attempting to brush out tight mats often causes discomfort and distress.
When matting becomes excessive, the kindest option is often to carefully remove it and allow the coat to grow back healthy.
As groomers, we always choose your dog’s welfare over maintaining a particular style.
Keeping Your Cockapoo Comfortable
Regular grooming isn’t simply about appearance.
A well-maintained coat helps your dog stay comfortable, improves skin health and makes grooming appointments much more enjoyable.
